Battle: Los Angeles was a good war film. I wouldn’t clap my hands and congratulate them on the alien life forms because they didn’t really dug dip into them. It was just a few explanations and them not fully showing how the aliens looked like made me admire the work that went into “Independence Day” considering how well they showed and made the alien monsters. I’m just quite surprised why they didn’t really bank on that part. It was supposed to be the reason why they’re making and selling the movie.
The cast aren’t really A list action stars maybe except for Michelle Rodriguez who seems to be just around everywhere where there are guns and bad ass chicks involved. It was more of a Black Hawk Down kind of thing without the focus on a particular story. Yes there were some stories of the cast in the beginning but they failed to dig into it as the film went on.
It was more of a retrieval operation and the aliens are just like men with better weapons. Except for the fact that they are on earth because of its water and they’re destroying the natives originally occupying the space, nothing more is talked about the alien invaders.
The movie is able to grab the attention of the viewers. I mean for those who love war movies, they’d be hooked till the end although there were some scenes that would mellow down the intense feeling then set it back high again. I don’t think the viewers like that much contrast in their interest and emotions.
Except for the aliens, the effects, environment, gunfire and explosions were really great. They must have banked more on that part. There was great use of people dying, destruction, then military equipment, tactics and people. Some moments of chuckles and laughter were also present in the film. It started slow. Consider sleeping or yawning till they get to the part when the aliens landed and started killing. It’s ok to miss the emotional stuff going on because they weren’t really talked about. It was more of a not leaving people behind but people stay behind for the good of all and becoming a hero. The movie lingered too much in unnecessary scenes and there was such a rush to the end with nothing extraordinary coming from the aliens except that they just slowly kept coming to shoot people. There wasn’t that much time dwelled on a climax or a final round. Too bad!
Seven out of 10 stars. Lower your expectations and just watched the move for the essence of patriotism, war and gunfire plus the explosions. Just don’t mind the aliens. Except for their firepower, there’s nothing much scary about them.
