Comic superstar Eddie Murphy, 50 is said to be a shoo-in to host the 84th Oscar Awards after producer Brett Ratner directed him in the upcoming “Tower Heist.”.
Brett Ratner and Don Mischer, who are producing the upcoming awards broadcast is scheduled to sit down with Academy President Tom Sherak and other Academy officials to decide who will get the gig after Labor Day weekend. But it was reported that Murphy is on the top of their list to host the 84th Oscar Awards.

Ratner said choosing Murphy to front the awards will surely ensure comedy to be a part of this year’s event, exactly what he intends to bring to the broadcast.
Another comedy actor who hosted Oscars in the past is Billy Crystal. He has been hosting the Oscars eight times between 1990 and 2004. Another contender for the spot is Bob Hope. Crystal expressed interest to host again. Many of his fans wants Crsytal to still have a part in the broadcast if Murphy is chosen.
Murphy was nominated in Academy Awards for best supporting actor for his work in the 2006 musical Dreamgirls. He’s took part on the showpresenting the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award to Jerry Lewis in 2009, presented best picture in 1988 and best visual effects in 1983.
Aside from comedy films, Murphy has laso lend his voice as as Donkey in the Shrek movies along with live-action movies like The Nutty Professor and Dr. Doolittle.
The 84th Academy Awards’ other producer, Don Mischer, has been approached by several other big names who have expressed interest in the hosting duties.
The 84th Oscars Awards will take place on February 26, 2012. Last year’s Oscars host were Anne Hathaway and James Franco whose co-hosting gig were widely criticized.
