Seasoned R&B singer Patti LaBelle fires back at filed case raised by Richard King, a West Point cadet, after he claimed that the diva ordered her bodyguards to beat him up for no reason. Patti LaBelle on the other hand defended her side of the story explaining that the feud started between the two after the cadet made racial insults to her. A lawyer of King’s denied this claim though saying that his client never said any racial insults during the time of the incident.
King’s lawyer further expounded that his client was only waiting for his family to get him from the Bush Intercontinental Airport on the 11th of March when three of LaBelle’s bodyguards approached him and beat him up without any reason. King, who was at the moment back in Houston after the West Point went on spring break, raised the lawsuit in court just early this month pointing LaBelle and her bodyguards as the defendants. He added that the attacked caused him concussion, dizziness, and headaches. To support his claims, King’s lawyer released the surveillance video recorded by the airport’s security system showing that King already 23 years old was pushed then beaten up by two men and a woman all pointed to be LaBelle’s bodyguards.
Meanwhile, LaBelle just recently filed a counter suit sharing her side of the story that it was King who attacked her bodyguards after he made mad and destructive racial insults to the singer.
LaBelle’s attorneys further shared their side of the story saying that King was intoxicated at that time and so he was wobbling around the terminal. He then started to scream and articulated insulting comments to LaBelle and tried to get inside her limousine of which Labelle’s bodyguards asked him politely to keep distance from the singer. On King’s side, he admitted that he indeed had a few drinks but it was not enough to get him intoxicated more so in the state that LaBelle’s party described him to as during their encounter.
One of LaBelle’s bodyguards was her son Edward Zuri. In their counter suit, it was stated that when King was making racial insults to LaBelle Edward came up to him and said that it was him mom. Unexpectedly, King instantly hit Edward on the face. They also added that it was King who really attacked the bodyguards.
John Raley, King’s lawyer, was quick to respond to these accusations saying that all the statements released from Labelle’s side are part of the “attacks she is making on an innocent man by repeatedly telling false stories they have reported to the Houston police”. He added there were witnesses who really saw and heard what happened. The counter-claim is nothing but purely made up.
