Rain fans will have to say goodbye for a while to their idol after it was reported that he will enter military service in the latter part of the year.

Even a pop superstar and a Hollywood actor like Rain is not exempted from the two years mandatory military duty required by his country South Korea.

Rain fans will have to say goodbye for a while to their idol after it was reported that he will enter military service in the latter part of the year.  Rain’s representative revealed on February ,“Rain is thinking of serving his compulsory military duties during the latter half of this year. He is planning on following whatever order the Military Manpower Association gives him. His government mandates that all able-bodied Korean men must serve in the military for two years between ages 18 to 35.

He was supposed to start his military stint last September but he requested for a delay not because of his showbiz career but because he still had to complete his master degree at the School of Arts Department of Performing Arts, Dankook University.

The 28 year old performer refuse to talk about the matter during the final stop of his Asian tour in Macau. Instead he talks about his upcoming movie new movie “Living in the Sky,” where he plays a pilot.  Rain also expressed his desire to star in more action films and romantic roles in TV dramas.

Rain has come a long way from being an unknown backup dancer to nine years ago to become one of the hottest starts in Asia. Rain has released five Korean albums and a Japanese record and launched a film and TV career.  He was one of the few Asian stars who was able to penetrate Hollywood, with two movies under his belt, “Speed Racer” and “Ninja Assassin”

During the pre-conference of his Macau concert, reporters were not able to get any comment from the star about his imminent leave from the entertainment industry to serve in the military.  Although successful in his Hollywood career,  the pop icon believes that the future of his career no longer lies in America,”Now America is no longer dominant. Now many Asian movies and songs are very popular. The two regions have the same status now,” he said.

Rain has nothing to worry about his temporary leave from showbiz. His fans assured him that they will continue to support the star and wait until he finish his military service.

“He is a very hardworking person. Serving in the military will improve his determination. It will make him more manly and more mature. His career might take a different direction after his military service, but I think he will keep getting better and better,” said 21-year-old university student Zhao Wenwei.

No official date has been announced when will Rain start his military duty.
