Rango is a funny story about a pet chameleon with a big imagination. Maybe that’s the consequences for living a solitary life surrounded with stuff that you can use as other people, something that I’ve seen in films like I am Legend and Castaway. The story and script is superb. It is also quite realistic showing stuff that people would do in sheer desolation.
Although the story isn’t something that is appealing for young children, there still are some great laughs but I think it would be a bit of a drag for the very young viewers. I just hate how they always sell an animation to children when the story is not meant for them. I wish they would just try to appeal animation to the not so young audiences. I wish they would make trailers that imply who the audience should be. Unless they are looking like that of Japanese animation, I guess adults wouldn’t really like to see them, not unless they have kids to go to the cinemas with.
The visual effects of the movie is just stunning. They are so real like they show animals and how they would look like if they are stuck in deep poverty. Even those that look like freaks and people at the brink of insanity were greatly captures. The attention to details is also something to look forward to. The details even to the last scales of the desert animals are evident in the film.
The actors also did a great job giving voice and life to the many characters in the film. Johnny Depp did a great job being the voice of the main character of the film. All the other voice of the characters also fit them well.
I give this film a 6 out of 10 stars. I would suggest people to not really bring kids to watch the film or if ever they do just do a good job of explaining the film well especially that the script has some adult humor in them. Watch it and be reminded of how the west and western films are like. Though shooting and firing guns weren’t really done in almost all the action part of the film, still it is able to deliver and bring back the west and all its glory.
