Sean Kingston was hospitalized Sunday, May 29, 2011, after a jet ski accident that happened around 6 p.m. that day. Sean’s publicist, Joseph Carozza said, “Sean Kingston is now stabilized and has moved from the trauma unit to ICU. Sean’s family thanks everyone for their prayers and support during this time.”

The 21 year old R&B and hip hop singer was rushed to the Ryder Trauma Center after he and a female friend hit the Palm Island Bridge while they were on a personal watercraft (PWC). Kingston was in a critical condition but has now been stabilized and has been transferred to an ICU in the Jackson Memorial Hospital.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission released a report stating, “Anderson was operating a PWC [personal watercraft] with a female passenger westbound along McArthur Cswy towards the Palm Ave Bridge.  Anderson struck the bridge and was transported to Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition.”

The Palm Island Bridge is a small bridge that connects the MacArthur Causeway to Miami’s Palm Island. Sean Kingston whose real name is Kisean Anderson was with a 23-year-old female passenger while on board a personal watercraft. Two good Samaritans, a man and a woman on a jet ski saw Kingston and helped them. The man now identified as Jimmy Vega said this to a local reporter, “We were about to turn back around [and go home] when we noticed him. I truly believe if we did turn around, he would not be with us today.”

A Coast Guard member who was on day off happened to be driving his boat around Star Island and he was called over to the accident scene. Jonathan Rivera said he noticed an empty jet ski, Kingston, and a floating woman who was wearing a vest in the water. The two people who called Rivera were on a jet ski and were struggling as they tried to hold Kingston up and keep his head above water. Kingston’s size kept them from keeping him up especially that Kingston’s life vest had come off during the accident.

Rivera then jumped in the water to help and he noticed that Kingston was “puking up blood out of his mouth.” Rivera wrapped his arms around Kingston and helped keep Kingston’s head above water. Kingston was “convulsing and throwing up blood all over me,” said Rivera as he held on to the jet ski with Kingston in his arms.

Rivera held onto Kingston until a police boat finally arrived to help them. Rivera told Sean he was going to be okay and Kingston said to him, “I’m going to be okay.” Rivera said Kingston was responsive and was able to follow directions when he got into the police boat but needed some assistance to get in.  Paramedics quickly came, checked and cleaned Kingston then rushed him to nearby waiting ambulance.

Rivera didn’t recognize it was the singer until he was well into the rescue. He told TMZ, “I mean regardless of whether I was in the Coast Guard, I would have still jumped off to help him. He needed help.”

The woman who was with Kingston was complaining that her head hurt and was also taken to the hospital as a precaution.

Justin Bieber is one of the many singers who worked with Kingston. Bieber posted this on his Twitter account on Monday, “In my prayers tonight. A true friend and big bro. Please keep him in your prayers tonight as well.”
