Sucker Punch is a story about a girl who escapes the harsh realities of her life to a fantasy world where she and some friends work together to escape the place they are in.
The effects of the movie were just great; it could have been one of the greatest I’ve seen. The color and the world brought to us evidently showed the hands of the director behind 300 and Watchmen. It was like giving reality to a world only seen in video games and animations. The costumes worn by the cast were cute and they really looked like characters of the Japanese video games and anime genre. The environment captured the darkness and feel of that like Watchmen as well.
The cast was great though I didn’t really see that much acting skills in the ladies. They could have been casted mainly due to their looks and how they look in their costumes. Some were clearly starred due to their popularity to maybe bank on the curiousness of the fans and people who followed them. Emily Browning did a great job no doubt. She had been acting since she was young. I just don’t like how they used the preference of the Twilight writer to have her cast as Bella which she turned down. Too bad, think of all the millions and star power she could have had.
The only thing bad about the movie was the story. It is so not like the depth of Watchmen and the chivalry and strength of the Spartans. It was a bit confusing and way too imaginative. The girls were also in god mode that they didn’t really show any weakness in their fantasy world which then took the relevance of portraying it when almost all of them were only killed and vulnerable in real life, never in the fantasy world where they battled to achieve some goals that could give them their freedom.
I rate this movie 6 stars out of 10. It is very watchable just lower your expectations on the story and you’ll have a treat in getting a chance to be in a video game world which we rarely see in movies.
